GenNext Announces 2007 Translational Research Course Schedule

September 20, 2006

GenNext Technologies announces the Translational Research Course Program for 2007. Two classes will be held: March 5th - 9th in San Francisco, and June 8th - 22nd in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

The Translational Research Course is a peer-to-peer learning program where translational researchers, basic life scientists, and technology developers explore the demands of clinical research as well as the essential principles of modern genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics studies. The program is an excellent introductory or refresher course for those of us actively involved in modern clinical research programs as well as drug discovery and drug development. A detailed review of recent technological advancements and new products for genomic and proteomic analysis make this course equally valuable for seasoned experimentalists who wish to update their knowledge or expand their scope of expertise to professionally related research areas.

Unlike other forums, the Translational Research Course places the principles and teachings of each specialty field into the larger context of translational medicine, emphasizing the interdependence of genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics as well as their respective interplay in effective clinical research.

Instructors for the Translational Research Course are professors, directors of institutes, managers of shared resource labs, computational biologists, principal investigators, and leading executives. Beneficial to both life science researchers and product/service providers to the industry, students who attend this course will learn about:

Over 50 attendees have taken advantage of past programs by advancing their scientific knowledge while establishing valuable rapport with other life science researchers and industry executives to help advance their research endeavors in the field of translational medicine (see http://www.gennexttech.com/about/testimony.php).

GenNext August 2006 Translational Research Course Continues the Tradition of Excellence in Translational Research Education

August 14, 2006

GenNext's August '06 Translational Research course was held on August 7th - 11th at the Georgia Center, University of Georgia, Athens, Ga. In total, 27 attendees participated in the interactive learning forum that emphasized essential principles of modern clinical research, such as the design and effective implementation of translational studies as well as detailed instruction in modern clinical genomic, proteomic, and bioinformatic technologies and products.

GenNext would like to acknowledge its instructors and Education Partners who participated in this session: Beckman Coulter, Bruker Daltonics, GE Healthcare, Ingenuity Systems, Genologic, and Intrinsic Bioprobes. GenNext also thanks the staff and management of the University of Georgia's Georgia Center whose professional attention to detail contributed to the overwhelming success of this learning forum.

Out of the 27 attendees, 21 scientists and clinicians responded to a post-program questionnaire to gauge the success and impact of the program. Briefly, the program was deemed to be a highly relevant learning experience, one that participants would highly recommend to their peers and colleagues.

Students particularly enjoyed the Biomarker Discovery Exercise, during which a multi-marker panel was created to differentiate colorectal cancer from inflammatory bowel disease. Biomarker candidates were generated using gene array analysis, Differential Gel Electrophoresis (DIGE: GE Healthcare), Differential Top-Down Proteomic Analysis (Bruker ClinProt®), as well as bottom-up proteomic studies. Correlative studies and pathway analysis was performed using Ingenuity's Pathway Analysis Software. A final biomarker panel was created and evaluated by creating ROC plots from authentic data.

Details regarding respondents comments to the post-program questionnaire can be found by downloading the following PDF file.
